Jurassic World Dominion

Jurassic World Dominion is a 2022 sci-fi/action climactic film of the Jurassic Park franchise that focuses on the intricacies of figuring out how humans and dinosaurs will co-exist. Shot in the beautiful cinematic style of a billion-dollar budget movie, Jurassic World Dominion is one for the books. Personally, I almost watched the movie in someone’s arms for how lifelike it was and to be honest, eerie and scary. I loved it. Jurassic World Dominion is directed by Colin Trevorrow and produced by none other than Steven Spielberg. Thanks, Spielberg for the beautiful cinematography. Wow!

A Locust Infestation

Jurassic World Dominion commences with a terrible swarm of huge locusts engulfing the United States. The locusts are humongous and are bio-engineered replicas of ancient locusts. The locusts are sweeping across the southeast United States and are threatening the food supply of both humans and animals. Ellie Sattler, a specialist in biogenetics, played by Laura Dern, is keen to find the cause of the locust infestation. Strangely, the locusts do not consume crops whose seeds are made by Biosyn Genetics, a government-contracted handler of modern-day dinosaurs and the associated science.

Biosyn

Biosyn was contracted to keep all the dinosaurs, those that could be caught at least, in a facility in the Italian Dolomite Mountains. Their facility also doubles as a research facility where they re-bioengineer old and ancient dinosaur species. Biosyn catches the dinosaurs that are roaming free and causing havoc and takes them to their research facility.

Something Amiss

Ellie thinks something is amiss and that the humongous locusts could have been bioengineered by Biosyn. She needs evidence to prove this and seeks out Alan Grant, a paleontologist, played by Sam Neill, to help her get the DNA sample she needs from Biosyn. She meets him at his dig site and they rekindle their friendship. Ellie doesn’t know it but Alan has had a thing for her all along.

Ian Malcolm

Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum, is a Biosyn employee who trains young interns and employees on matters of research and rediscovering the species of the dinosaur age. He invites Ellie to the research facility in the Dolomite Mountains and acts as her in, to the facility, to get the sample she needs. She and Alan are also helped by Ramsay Cole, a senior employee of Biosyn, played by Mamoudou Athie. Ramsay is of the opinion that Biosyn shouldn’t be releasing a destructive locust species and threatening global food security and therefore helps the duo.

Maisie Lockwood

A replica of her creator Charlotte Lockwood, Maisie Lockwood, played by Isabella Sermon, is a clone of the former. She was created by Charlotte by bioengineering her own cells to remove a degenerative disease. She is a clone and the prototype of a self-made species. She is the child of Charlotte and like Blue the dinosaur’s baby, Beta, a child of her creator who has reproduced on her own. Biosyn kidnaps Maisie and Beta as a way to decode Charlotte’s method of altering every cell of her body and her own DNA while creating Maisie.

Maisie’s Adopted Parents

Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, and Claire Dearing, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, are Maisie’s adopted parents. They somewhat stole Maisie when the Isla Nublar theme park and facility were destroyed four years ago, following a volcanic eruption. They have tried to keep Maisie hidden but she is kidnapped, together with Blue’s baby, Beta, and transported to the Biosyn facility.

Bringing Maisie Back Home

In their effort to bring Maisie back home, Owen and Claire seek the help of for-hire pilot Kayla Watts, played by DeWanda Wise. They head to Italy to Biosyn and despite their plane being fell from the sky, do all they can to get their baby back.

System Malfunction

The Biosyn facility breaks down after a series of actions by the company’s CEO Dr. Lewis Dogdson, played by Campbell Scott, including an attempt to incinerate the locusts in the research facility. The locusts swarm out in a fiery swarm and bring the whole valley to a burning mess. His efforts also to curtail Ellie and Alan, who have collected the DNA sample they needed by now, also prove futile.

Beating All Odds

In the mess and encounters with dinosaurs of different kinds, Maisie and Beta escape and meet with her parents, and also Ian, now fired, joins the group as do Alan and Ellie. As a group, they beat all odds and escape the facility.

Biosyn Exposed

With help from Ramsay, they expose Biosyn, and Dr. Henry Wu, played by BD Wong, figures out a way to bioengineer the locusts to destroy themselves; by changing the DNA of one and releasing it to the swarm. Humans and dinosaurs find a better way to coexist after the realization that it is the only way they can both survive. Jurassic World Dominion ends up being less about which species dominate and more about how none does.
