The 2020 U.S. Election is Too Close to Call

A day after election day, it is unclear who will win the 2020 U.S. election between Joe Biden and Incumbent Donald Trump. As things currently stand, Joe Biden is in the lead with 238 electoral college votes out of the needed 270. On the other hand, Donald Trump has 213 electoral college votes out of the needed 270 to win the election. The race is very tight.

Electoral College Votes

Joe Biden only needs 32 more electoral college votes to win. Coincidentally, Nevada has 6 electoral college votes, Wisconsin has 10, and Michigan has 16 votes. All of these add up to 32 electoral college votes, all that Biden needs to win. The three states are currently projected to go to Biden, which may be what he needs to beat Donald Trump. This is the first time in recent history that the election has been this close. The 2020 U.S. election is too close to call, even as Joe Biden could likely have better prospects for winning.

Premature Victory Declaration

We feared that Donald Trump would come out before the end of the vote tally and declare victory, and he did. He came out and said that there was ‘electoral fraud’ and that as far as he was concerned, he had ‘already won.’ That is just wrong, and even as it was expected, Donald Trump has again proven his insolence. He also pledged to appeal the election results in the supreme court if Joe Biden won. That is very convenient for him as he recently forced the appointment of a supreme court judge, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Before the election, Judge Barrett was appointed hurriedly as a way for Trump and the Republicans to shift the Supreme Court to the right.

Joe Biden has encouraged patience and has said that the nation should wait for the election results to be announced. Trump’s announcement is likely to stoke heated division, and unfortunately, this could lead to clashes or violence in American streets. Numerous businesses, the country over, had barricaded their shops and stores anticipating such an unfortunate event. We encourage everyone to remain calm. Any of the two candidates could win, and that is okay. We should all resign to accepting that the election could go both ways.
